Royal Ascot Day 4 18th June 2015

Royal Ascot Day 4

2:30
ALBANY STAKES (GROUP 3) (FILLIES) (CLASS 1) (2yo) Winner £39,697 19 runners 6f Good To Firm CH4

This just gets no easier and today is the worst i think to pick winners

A bunch of 2 yr old fillies some have form but we have little to go on and most are just off a single run

The Foreign raiders may well be good enough for this but I will plump for rank outsider Miss Moneypenny at a whooping 40/1 as this just has to be a double figure opening Winner in this race.
We have some form with her and a decent run at Epsom so she has mixed it with decent company

Not a race i want to put much on so go easy its a bit of blind betting race

3:05
KING EDWARD VII STAKES (GROUP 2) (COLTS & GELDINGS) (CLASS 1) (3yo) Winner £131,539 7 runners 1m4f Good To Firm CH4
Another tight race that gives little away again, To me there is no stand out Fav just names people go for (Trainers/Jockeys)  but i like the chances of Balios he could spring a surprise he is only 5/1 so not a major shock but could head the other 2 Fav in the market again Simcox will have him well prepared for this and he is the one for me.

3:40
COMMONWEALTH CUP (GROUP 1) (CLASS 1) (3yo) Winner £229,854 18 runners 6f Good To FirmCH4
Tiggy Wiggy will be popular here so need to get on the 6/1 early as it will go and why would you not Hannon/Hughes combo and is entered to win this race however a filly in a Colts race i think she will come up short
Kool Kompany would be my one at a price 20/1 yes Hannons second string but there is not much in this and he has form and a speedy colt he could progress today.
Anthem Alexander is also a useful performer and at 7/1 i think could easily win this, Prep run went better than expected and he is progressive more improvement today and we could see the winner.

Limato is way too short at 7/2and on form is more than capable but William Haggas's Adaay at 8/1 is a good solid horse and been mixing it at the higher end of the classes.and has an outstanding chance in this.

4:20
CORONATION STAKES (BRITISH CHAMPIONS SERIES) (GROUP 1) (FILLIES) (CLASS 1) (3yo) Winner £229,854 9 runners 1m Good To Firm CH4

Hell i am not sure on this one at all its not a race i will throw much on and i would go for Lucida from the Bolger yard who has all the credentials to win this. She is only 3/1

I think she is a Double Treble player more than a lump on

5:00
DUKE OF EDINBURGH STAKES (HANDICAP) (CLASS 2) (3yo+ 0-105) Winner £46,688 22 runners1m4f Good To Firm CH4
Michael Stoute has won this in the last 2 runnings but no runner today so a new champ is born

There are a long list of contenders and some stepping up that could take this if the trip suits

So the List is

Sennockian Star - I love this horse and at 16/1 i am just hoping he gets the distance, he is not one to throw your mortgage at for sure had his good and bad and generally frustrating at times but has talent and if it clicks will win a biggie like this, worth a small wager
Astronereus Amanda Perrett's yard think the world of him and he has done very well from a smallish yard has form on Good to Firm at Ascot and won at group 2 company he is a major player and my guess is this is his summer and targeted this race 10/1 but i would guess could shorten
Ajman Bridge looks a tough little cookie and could also run a biggie yes he is not a big price at 7/1 but i do like the look of him has the profile of a winner.
Dashing Star 14/1 (now down in to 10/1 i notice) and Watersmeet 12/1 are interesting.

5:35
QUEEN´S VASE (LISTED RACE) (CLASS 1) (3yo) Winner £48,204 15 runners 2m Good To FirmCH4

So to the Queens Vase another puzzle to solve and try to pick a winner

Naturally Aloft O'Brien /Moore combo will be popular and the price has long gone on him, bear in mind he has only run 8F and no further so its a risky one will he last at Top weight.

So we look for some value and a price so i have a couple

Yarrow (really not sure but noticed it was Pricewised this morning) so will need to get on quick, owners have had a winner this week however Yarrow could turn in to a decent horse and will welcome this trip and at 9/1 I will have a play something holds me back but i think she could place and is well weighted and the right side of the draw.

Mark Johnston has an excellent record in this race although its not won by many big priced winners and low gate draws seem to win this one
He sends in 2 Fillies
Yorkidding - is set to run a biggie and has mixed it with Space Age and Scottish who have both ran well here this week She is a big outsider at 33/1 and the draw is 11 not unwinnerable - interesting to see how she goes
His other horse and the ride of Joe Fanning is Vive Me Fille she has ability and has done 1M 4F so this step up should be fine. She rates 25/1

The Queen could have a winner in Fabricate at 13/2 and does the distance and might be worth a poke (sorry Maam!!)

The only other one i like but has not beaten much is Antiquarium who could well come on and like the Johnston Fillies is stepping up but does 1M 4F so this should not be a problem and is the right side of the draw, Buick takes the ride and i think he has a massive shout here at 8/1

Royal Ascot Day 3

Royal Ascot Day 3

2:30
NORFOLK STAKES (GROUP 2) (CLASS 1) (2yo) Winner £45,368 12 runners 5f Good To Firm CH4

So we open up with the 5F dash in the Norfolk for 2 yr olds

King of Rocks should sweep this up at a skinny Evens or just above (he is double and treble material) and the likely winner of this one
The only challengers to him are potentially Log Out Island 3/1 another Hannon 2 yr old and Waterloo Bridge 16/1 as its O'Brien and Moore combo which is always there or thereabouts

Can not see beyond King of Rocks

3:05
TERCENTENARY STAKES (GROUP 3) (CLASS 1) (3yo) Winner £42,533 14 runners 1m2f Good To Firm CH4

Another race that has no clear stand out winner and could prove awkward to pick a winner in

Roger Charlton's Time Test is going in the right direction and a Fav here he is only 3/1, you would hope to get him beat by an improver but who !!!

Master Apprentice looks very interesting and Andrew Balding will have him spot on for this and he has been impressive he is a juicy 8/1 and that is value for a horse that hopefully will be there when it matters.
Mustadeem needs a mention, a fair way behind Golden Horn in the Feilden Stakes but we know how good he is and has come back and finished a close second in a class 1 at Newmarket he is risky but 10/1 with Hanagan on board he is not without a chance.
I would not rule out Disegno he has talent and is just missing out and can not quite get his nose in front but 9/1 with Ryan Moore on the back he looks big.

Take your pick of those 3 if the Fav can be beat

3:40
RIBBLESDALE STAKES (GROUP 2) (FILLIES) (CLASS 1) (3yo) Winner £105,934 10 runners 1m4fGood To Firm CH4

Pleascach is the rage here and should comfortably win this one i really can not see much stopping him here but again he is skinny at just above evens but will he do the distance.

The Irish challenge apart from the obvious is Curvy who is not without hope here, but if he is good enough is probably no!!  but he is 7/1 and Pandora got to within 3 lengths of Star of Seville so may end up being the main threat and looks the value horse at 10/1 but again is he good enough then today will show

Its Peasecach for me but any chinks then Pandora is the one to take it at a price - Interesting and tricky race.

4:20
GOLD CUP (BRITISH CHAMPIONS SERIES) (GROUP 1) (CLASS 1) (4yo+) Winner £229,854 14 runners 2m4f Good To Firm CH4

The Gold Cup and the Queen does not have a runner, i have fancied all week Vent De Force 8/1 and i should stick to my gut feel, its further than he has been before but you can say that about most, its how they cope with it.

Kingfisher has had his ups and downs but must be respected 10/1 the distance will prove no problem here.
Mizzou and Forgotten Rules are the Fav and can go well although i want them beat in this which should be done
Forever Now 25/1 is not out of this either if stepping up in trip works and could be a bigger danger

I will go with my gut feeling Vent de Force at 8/1 with Kingfisher and Forever Now as places

Add to that its a 4 yr old that normally takes this!!!

5:00
BRITANNIA STAKES (HERITAGE HANDICAP) (COLTS & GELDINGS) (CLASS 2) (3yo 0-105) Winner £74,700 30 runners 1m Good To Firm CH4

Another 30 Horse Race so dart time i hear you cry

Well...................  May be not this time!!!!!

Rotherwick Rotherwick and Rotherwick i will stick my neck on the line and get him home first he has the form at Ascot and its his race and i am being serious for sure, had the prep run with a very creditable 2nd

This is not an easy race of course and i could find reasons to put others up but i am sticking to my guns on this one (bonkers really)

Nothing over 9st wins this (its rare) so lets go on the hear and now and at 20/1 he is a steal and fits the profile.

Rotherwick is mine in this one

5:35
KING GEORGE V STAKES (HANDICAP) (CLASS 2) (3yo 0-105) Winner £46,688 19 runners 1m4fGood To Firm CH4

Another yet again difficult race to pick a winner

However I am going for Scottish from the Baldwin yard he is progressive and should see the distance out although very few in here have run this far on a racetrack
I was impressed with his Newbury run last time out and a step up from that can win this one for him, he is currently an 8/1 shot and is a Value pick.

Nothing heavier than 9st 1lb has won this since 2001

Putting Green 20/1 has a shout but has to step up big time as does Rib Reserve 16/1 whom i do like but this may have come too soon.
Belgrade 16/1 is interesting as Hughes has chosen this one.

Quest For Wonder is a big long shot and not one to put much on but is 20/1 and the reason i am drawn to him is he has the miles under the bones he will for sure get the distance he is a low weight so could run a biggie here in the lucky last has gone under the radar if he steps up.

So Scottish is the main bet at 8/1 but Quest for Wonder 20/1 will go in too

Royal Ascot Day 2 17th June 2015

Royal Ascot Day 2

I have a less in depth analysis of day 2 but hopefully rewarding.

2:30
JERSEY STAKES (GROUP 3) (CLASS 1) (3yo) Winner £42,533 16 runners 7f

The Jersey Stakes is a good trappy little contest to open up with

Ivawood is a deserved Fav but as little as 6/4 does not fill me with much expectation (and he is heavy) however there are a number of others at big prices who can win this.

Dutch Connection does interest me he ran an excellent 2000 Guineas, he ran an excellent race for 90% of it but did not have the legs to get home in the final half a furlong Today's trip is only 7F which i think should suit him. In with a real shout at 12/1

Bossy Guest also ran an excellent Guineas and only 3 Lengths down on Gleneagles a run full of promise and improvement would see him there or thereabouts, he is 9/1.

Mister Universe is so overpriced in this at 25/1 and is a useful player in here and could easily place if not better has ability that we saw 2 weeks ago he may be up for this one

Others are Sir Issac Newton and Hathal could well play a part

Its Dutch Connection for me and Mister Universe to cause an upset although if Ivawood gets going he will be difficult to peg back

3:05
QUEEN MARY STAKES (GROUP 2) (FILLIES) (CLASS 1) (2yo) Winner £56,710 23 runners 5f Good

This is not a race to go big in but a couple that can win this
Mark Johnston again can do some damage with Deliza who won a Class 1 at York and beat several rivals in this field by some distance and at 10/1 is good value and where my money would be going.
New Road Side would be another to cask an eye over and see at 25/1 the Irish raider has improving form and a big shout
Lets leave this race there

Rizeena looks to be the one here however the reappearance was disappointing however the ground was not right that day but should be just how she likes it and is a bit of value at 6/1 there are plenty of challengers the Stoute pair for example but i hope Rizeena holds her way.

Not an easy one to predict but lets go for an upset and Rizeena to bring home the Bacon

4:20
PRINCE OF WALES´S STAKES (BRITISH CHAMPIONS SERIES) (GROUP 1) (CLASS 1) (4yo+) Winner £297,728 10 runners 1m2f Good CH4

This gets no easier Free Eagle has a great chance in this and Dermot Weld has run him here before and will prefer today's ground - has every chance but at 3/1 the value maybe elsewhere
I do not know much about the French raider Ectot however its The Grey Gatsby that interests me more, Kevin Ryan should have him ready for this - Jamie Spencer takes the ride which is odd as Moore rides for Stoute which puts me a little uneasy in the race however the Spencer mount has the winning in this one.

Its going to be a close one with Western Hymn and The Coriscan in with a big shout at big prices as they have done nothing wrong.

5:00
ROYAL HUNT CUP (HERITAGE HANDICAP) (CLASS 2) (3yo+) Winner £108,938 30 runners 1mGood CH4
Good Luck !!!!!

30 horse race oh boy try pick a winner !!!

Go for low stall gates or high stall gates (4 of the last 5 winners) there is a trend for this bottom 10 or top 10 the middle does not win this so

The Contenders

Chill the Kite drawn 10 and is a useful player here and good Ascot form 16/1
Gabriel drawn 30 - Fahey very lovable 6 yr old very consistent and can mix it at this level 25/1
Lincoln drawn 22 - ran a cracker on the last run at Ascot and can play a big part here 20/1
Your Fired drawn 25 - ran a stormer at York so the straight mile may not suit but if does then has the beating of this lot 16/1

I expect a big price winner so i will go Lincoln at 20/1

5:35
SANDRINGHAM HANDICAP (LISTED RACE) (FILLIES) (CLASS 1) (3yo 0-110) Winner £39,697 17 runners 1m Good CH4
At least this tricky puzzle has less horses

Not a race i want to punt on as its bloody hard !!!!

Jellicle Bell will be popular and rightly so with Moore doing the driving and Gosden the trainer he should be there and at 10/1 does represent value however i do like Fahey trained Realtra at 20/1 to run a good one, he beat a number of Rivals at York and ran Ok at Epsom without holding all the cards
Big player here and goes better against her own Gender.

Watch also Touchline (8/1) for a royal winner and Tazffin (20/1) a big priced Varian player in this.

The opening is the Queen Anne Stakes and is between 4 Horses

Able Friend
Night of Thunder
Solow
Toormore

Richard Hannon has won this 3 times in 6 years and last years winner Toormore is more than capable and Interesting Hughes has taken the ride (i assume he had a choice)
I do Fancy Night of Thunder more for this one as he seems he may have come on again but there was a Neck in it last time they meet so the Hannon camp will be looking at plenty of serious prize money in the opener.
I will be honest Able Friend and Solow i know little about but they like winning, they have traveled here so they are not making the numbers up.
They are serious threats here and in Solow seems to be the biggest danger.
The Value seems to be with the home grown horses here and whilst i have preference for Night Of Thunder its marginal and may back both Hannon Horses

Night of Thunder 5/1
Toormore   8/1

First look at this race and its a nightmare to pick a winner however there are a lot who have not performed/proven at this level so unless there is a massive improver which is possible there actually is only a few with the scope to take this.

The one i really like is Buratino he did me proud at Epsom 2 weeks ago however a word of note winners at Epsom have not fared well here in the past however he is a quality horse, He did miss the start at Epsom but flew around the outside to win easily he has more to give and a real star in the making. A Major player at 8/1

Air Force Blue is a major player although not really proven at this level so but at 8/1 he could win this with the above average improvements, bear in mind he is an O Brien horse that needs respect
The one i would worry more about is the Fav for the race Round Two the Bolger Horse, i would not think the step up to 6F would cause any issues and he is well respected by the camp, he is only 2/1 in a race something may come out the woodwork at a price.

For me Buratino is the one for me at 8/1 he has the beating of all around him.

Its difficult to pick one out at a price

Oh My what a field and what a puzzle!!!

Again break it down and its all about is Sole Power (7/2) still good enough at 8 Yrs Old and see off his younger rivals but they are getting closer.
His comeback run was on ground he was not keen on so arrives at Ascot on good to firm so its set up for him really but can he keep the challengers away i would love him to do it.

Pearl Secret (16/1 way too big) has to be seriously considered although his Ascot record is not good at all on Good ground he has improved and a little more he could break his duck at Ascot.
Hot Streak (20/1) is interesting and take note Jamie Spencer takes the ride here his track record is better than most who have run here, comeback runs where not great but this will be what he is primed for.
Muthmir is another with a shout and could easily place at 9/2 is quite short.
Must mention Jack Dexter seems to have been around for some time and only 6 Yrs old the rumour is he prefers cut but has decent good going form he is not to be written off but always seems to be a bridesmaid however at 25/1 it could happen!!!

Others to look for Mecca's Angel (7/1) and Goldream at 25/1 is an interesting horse if its good to firm loves that ground.

Sole Power will be in a treble and double however Pearl Secret and Hot Streak have big shouts.
Jack Dexter and Goldream interest me too a very difficult race but great to watch.

O' Brien should just put the money in the bank its all about the Gleneagles and he really should be winning this.
Consort could possibly be a fly in the ointment but has to step up and big time
Which leaves Make Believe as another big danger however he has never been here and whilst thsi 3 year old is good but Gleneagles has had more success and can win this

Its Gleneagles for me

Well this is throw a dart time and hope it wins
This is not a race i would have much confidence in and Stayers are the name of the game here so National Hunt horses and trainers do well here but lets face it anything could win
Mullins has Digenta at the foot of the weights which has to be an advantage, Boite is also one to consider.
My only rule of thumb here is nothing too heavy so Ray Ward downwards, if you were to push me for a winner i will go Asbury Boss but with little confidence, its further than he has been but assume he does the distance
Not a Punting Race.

Another throw a Dart in the racecard !!!!  Anything could win this not an easy puzzle for 2 yrs old

Washington DC will be popular and has done well but not set the world alight but may get lost in a race like this.
Ravenhoe seems to have slumped and i am not sure why with Johnston yard in great form so it would be no surprise if he won this
I do like at a push Lathom seems a big improver, Soapy Aitken has speed and would be interesting in this.
Apart from that I am struggling.
